Carports, Garage Kits, Steel Buildings

The term steel garage can include many different types of outdoor structures including a steel carport, utility building, barn, enclosed awning, and even a large shed.  Other terms used to describe steel garage kits can include modular, prefab, prefabricated, or pole building.  Basically all are outdoor buildings that can be used for multiple functions including the storage of vehicles, equipment, household or recreational items, and even as a workshop space where tasks can be completed under shelter.  The main reason why most people chose steel garages over other types of materials is because steel framing is most durable against extreme outdoor conditions and long term exposure to the elements.  The price of steel garage buildings is also much less than the cost of building a concrete frame garage.  Wood materials are the cheapest but not necessarily the most durable.  In time, wood requires repairs due to damage from exposure to moisture, bugs, and other damaging events like storms and fire.

steel garage kitPrior to purchasing a steel garage building you will need to discover the local jurisdictions requirements for outdoor structures.  Most vendors will not sell you a structure unless you have specific information about the local restrictions and requirements in your area.  Steel buildings, garages, sheds, carports, and even barns permits regardless of size, style, or installation method.  Some jurisdictions require that you submit the plan before permission can be given so you may need to get a copy of the plans from the manufacture prior to purchasing the structure.  A manufacturer has the option to charge you for the plans depending on the size of the structure.  Shop wisely and never give a deposit for anything unless you are very sure and comfortable with the company you are dealing with.

Protect your investment by first following all of the rules and regulations in your local area.  You also follow the assembly and installation instructions carefully.  If you are short on time or skills that are required to install a structure, consider hiring a contractor to handle the entire process.  Some manufacturers offer delivery, assembly, and installation included in the price of their structures which can add up to a substantial savings of time and money for you.
