Stand Alone Carport

For most people, having a garage connected to their house is clearly the preferable place to store a vehicle. However, you may be lacking such a convenience or your garage is already being utilized for another purpose such as another vehicle, as a playroom for children, or as storage for household items.  For most people, adding on to a home or building another traditional garage is simply out of the question.  In such a case, a good alternative would be to install a stand alone carport.

As mentioned, when a garage is out of the question, but you still live in the kind of climate where you would need to protect your car from the elements year round.  Conditions such as snow or very heavy rain are not fun to deal with when you are trying to get in and out of your vehicle.  A free standing carport can prevent exposure to such conditions with the exception of extreme or excessive rain and wind mixtures or snow that is blown in by the wind.

There are a huge range of stand alone carports on the market. Most kits range from particularly large ones, which are useful in protecting SUVs; to smaller or standard sizes intended for a regular sized vehicle.

Another option could include, especially if you are prepared to spend a little more money, the option to purchase an enclosed stand alone carport plan or design. As well as protecting the top of your vehicle from vertical rainfall, snow, etc., it can partially or fully protect its sides, which is also useful if you do a lot of maintenance on the vehicle or if you could use a covered place to store other items such as a lawn mower or gardening supplies.

If you own an expensive sports car or a fancy speed boat, leaving it in the open could make it prey for malicious activity by vandals or thieves. One of the most important benefits of fully enclosed free standing carports is that they can be locked and secured during the night or when you are away.  You can even choose to add an alarm system for ultimate protection from such dangers.  Most burglars and vandals are creatures of opportunity, and will only consider breaking into something if it’s easy and quick, and there’s little chance of them being caught.

In general, the addition of a carport could be advantageous for many reasons and can easily remedy just about any type of shelter or storage problem you may be facing.
