Single Car Carport

by Raymond Wallace

If you want to put up a one car carport, or single car carport as they are also known, you will find it to be pretty simple to do, in fact, you can even get single car carports that are a do it yourself job as far as the set up goes.  You can have your new carport installed in as little as a few hours depending on the size and materials that you choose.

There are a number of different styles of carports.  You can get a flat roof carport or one that contains an arched or gabled roof.  You can also choose a single slope carport that attaches to the side of the house and where the roof slopes down.  This is good if you live in a place that snows for winter as you will not have to worry about accumulated snow weighing on the carport roof. In addition, a single slope carport takes up a bit less room than a flat roof carport does, which is also a factor to consider if you have limited space to build a carport on.

There are quite a few companies selling one car carports and you can get either the open air kind that is just four posts with a roof on top or the enclosed kind that has three walls to it and sometimes can have a locking door added to the front as well.  Carports can be made from wood, steel, aluminum, or simply have a canopy cover. Whatever kind you end up deciding to get you should first of all check out the building laws in your area to make sure that you would not need a building permit for putting up a carport on your property.  Often you do not, but also in a number of cases you do, depending on not only where you live but also what type of carport you are putting up.
