Prefabricated carports, or prefab carports as they are generally known, have a distinct advantage over other carports in that you can set them up yourself as opposed to having the company you bought the carport from coming to do it for you, which almost always costs extra.  There are a lot of companies that sell carports and it is worth the time spent to research thoroughly before buying a prefab carport, as, like all other carports on the market, they are not exactly cheap.

The cheapest kind of prefab carport is the canopy carport.  It is also the easiest to set up yourself; if you have a limited budget, or if you are not exactly comfortable with the idea of setting up a more difficult carport, such as prefab metal carports, then you might like the idea of a carport canopy.

However, if you have the budget for it, carports made of metal materials are a lot stronger and they last longer than canopy carports do, as the canopy or roofing material may need to be replaced periodically.  If you take that into account, you may find that a prefab metal carport is a better buy in the end.  They are more difficult to set up than canopies but they still fall into the do it yourself category.  You can easily find carports made from either steel or aluminum.

You should have no problem finding or buying a carport of any kind online, by simply searching for ‘carport kits’.  There are a number of styles and sizes, so the prices vary a lot.  If you are trying to keep your costs down, one thing you might want to do is see if the company offers free shipping or even free setting up of the carport, as some companies do, depending on where you live and what type of carport you buy.
