Carports

Deciding which metal carport plan or design will best fit your vehicle or shelter needs may take a little shopping around on your part.  The internet is a great place to find out more information about the latest materials, designs, and sizes that are available.  Most companies carry a good selection of the latest or most popular metal carport plans.  Most also allow you to customize a metal carport design to specifically match your needs.  Such services are usually only offered by the larger companies or manufacturers.  Such companies usually have plenty of parts on hand so if you need a specific size or style, they can usually accommodate the order without much of a delay.

If you do decide to stick to a standard size shelter, you will still need to choose a type of installation.  A metal carport garage plan can be attached or free standing.  An attached or lean to installation must go directly next to your home or building.  The second options is a freestanding or stand alone installation which can go anywhere, within reason.  You obviously can’t place it in front of your home unless it is allowed by your local building codes.  It is always a good idea to check with your local building regulation department before you build anything on your property anyway.  You may find that your locality restricts the type of shelter, material, or installation for an outdoor shelter.

You can find metal garage carports, plans, and even kits in all kinds of roof styles including the basic flat to the more decorative gabled.  Flat roof styles do not work well in areas where there may be heavy snow or rain fall.  Excess snow and rain would accumulate on top of a flat top shelter.  On the other hand, a peaked or A-frame roof would allow for the excess rain and snow to fall off the sides of the shelter.  Most consumers choose a roof style that is consistent with that of their home or a simple flat roof.

If you are interested in building your own carport with supplies that you will be purchasing, you can find all kinds of metal carport drawings for free or sale online.  Most professional companies that offer or sell metal carport plans, usually include a detailed supply list so you will know exactly which supplies to buy and which type of tools you will need.  An enclosed metal carport garage plan is likely going to be more difficult then one that is open and airy but the enclosed option will give ultimate protection for you vehicles and other valuables.
