Carports, Tips

Carports seem to last forever but there may come a point in time when a replacement part is needed.  Finding metal carport parts is easy if you know where to start.  The best place to start is by searching for the brand and model of your carport on the internet.  Most companies have a website so contacting a company is easy.  You will however need to know the type or name of the part that you are looking for.

Modern outdoor shelters typically contain part numbers on the main parts so it is easy to determine which part you should be searching for.  If you own an older carport that does not contain part numbers you can also try to refer to the instructions manual.  Each metal carport part should be individually listed with a part number or letter for reference.  You can then contact the manufacturer with the exact reference name or number.

Older carports or metal carports that were purchases secondhand are likely going to lack instructions or manuals so you will probably have to do a little bit of research in order to figure out exactly what you need.  Older models may contain a carport material that is no longer manufactured so your search may include salvage or used carport parts.  Salvage metal carport parts can be found with ease but you will have to start at the local level so you can compare the parts in person.

A broader online search may be needed if you cannot find it locally.  When searching online you will need to describe the part in order to find items that are similar.  Be sure to look at all available pictures until you can find one that matches.  Once you have a name for the carport part, you can then broaden the search to find more options of the part.

Some carport materials are universal or commonly used by many different manufacturers so you might find a solution very quickly.  Hardware and home improvement stores may sell something similar as well so that is another option that may work for your particular situation.
