Depending on the design and architectural style of the house, a trellis carport can make a challenging do it yourself project.  For the homeowner who has solid construction skills, however, it is not out of reach.  If the trellis is more than a simple stand alone canopy with poles, it is a good idea to check your local building codes before you begin construction, as your plans may have to be approved first.

Consider designing a trellis into the plans for your carport garden from the beginning of your project, as opposed to adding it on later.  The finished product will look more uniform, and building both at once will save money on labor and materials.  Choose a garden carport that you will love to look at; it will upgrade your home, while creating more space for you to enjoy.
