Carport Installation

by Raymond Wallace

Carport installation is a cheap and easy “do it yourself” affair today, with many choices in custom made kits available in the market. Carports offer the best possible protection for cars and vehicles, against rough weather, snow, and even dust that blows around. They are also ideal for increasing storage space and perfect if you would like to utilize your garage for some other function or utility. Today they are also an excellent shelter alternative for people who do not have the privilege of owning a garage.

Carport install procedures are usually simply with step by step carport installation instructions in the form of a manual and in some cases, even a video from the manufacturer.  If you can’t do the labor yourself or if you simply do not have the time it requires, you can just as easily hire a local handyman or contractor to put a kit together for you.

Generally carport installations may require that you contact your municipality before installation, because some regions have strict rules as to the type, size, and type of outdoor shelter installation you are allowed to do.  Most kits that require bolting or screwing together pieces during the assembly process are however considered to be temporary structures so you may not need to file any paperwork at all.  You should definitely take your carport dimensions and plans to the local building codes office to make sure before you begin to assemble the shelter.  Carport plans are usually made by licensed engineers so they should meet the local minimum requirement with no problem.

Canopies are the most portable type of carport on the market today.  A new trend of softop carport installation is available and in high demand these days. Such shelters gained most of their popularity because many consumers simply cannot afford a traditional carport or garage installation.  Soft-top carport products come in all kinds of materials and colors.  Most materials are highly durable and they also filter the sun’s harmful UV rays.
