Canopies, Carports

Carport, canopies, and even awnings usually mean the same thing but in some cases they do vary in style and materials.  For example, a pop up canopy is usually made with a metal or plastic frame that is covered with a vinyl or canvas canopy.  Such a shelter can be used to cover a car, boat, or other type of vehicle.  The terms carports and canopies can however be very interchangeable and used for multiple types of structures.  Some consumers use such shelters solely for their vehicles while others use them for recreational purposes such as camping, cookouts, weddings, yard sales, and much more.  You can easily use a canopy or carport for your vehicle as well as for other activities by simply moving your vehicle to another location.

When deciding between a lightweight canopy and carport made with materials such as wood, vinyl, and even metal be sure to first consider the climate where you live.  Weather conditions that include heavy rains, snowfall, and especially wind will likely not work well for a lightweight shelter.  In such climates, you will need to purchase certified carports, canopies, and awnings that are made specifically with materials and manufacturing techniques intended to withstand the force and weight associated with such events.  You can contact a local dealer for this kind of information of contact your local building codes enforcement office.

The assembly and installation of a carports canopy is also very critical.  You must make sure that all of the instructions are followed to the fullest because a misstep in installation and assembly could affect the overall structural integrity of the shelter.  If you are not familiar with building codes, it is best to consult with a professional contractor or a building inspector in order to get your shelter up to code and safe for use.  A canopy carport that is large in size is especially dangerous when not assembled or anchored properly especially in the event of a severe weather condition.
