Founded in 1981 by Luis Fabian and Robert Hayworth Jr., (who met while both were employed as laborers in charge of carport building back in 1971) Baja’s main business revolves around the manufacturing of short span building out of cold-rolled materials which is in contrast to other contractors who tend to work more with medium to large pre-engineered building kits. While the partners remain hands-on in dealing with their customers, Fabian is the one who now oversees the construction side of the business, while Hayworth takes care of the sales end.
Their combined experience involving in-house design and engineering capability, has helped Baja Construction become one of the nation’s leading contractors for carports. It is also their strong business management sense and their devotion to truly listening to what their customers’ require, as well as their ability to work economically on projects that keep their clients coming back as well as referring new customers to them.
Although their primary focus is serving the western United States, particularly California, Baja Carports has completed numerous projects in a number of other states as well, including Texas, and Nevada, where they recently built approximately 1400 carports in Las Vegas alone.
In fact, the owners of Baja Carport report that carports account for 90% of their business, with the rest devoted to making small span structures and mini-storage buildings. In addition, half their business is derived through building and design contracts, and half from spec work.
