Carport Kits, Carports

So you are considering building a new aluminum carport cover either standing alone in your driveway or as an attachment onto your house, but you are not sure what materials to use when you build it?  There are many different types of materials that you can use when constructing either a standard or attached carport.  Some of the most popular materials include steel, wood, and aluminum.  For durability, steel is the best material available.  However, it also happens to be the most expensive material out there.  Wood is good, but it must be painted and is prone to rot if not properly treated.  Aluminum is cheaper but it is also more vulnerable to rust.

One of the most popular compromises for building material comes in the form of using aluminum carport covers with wood or steel support beams. Aluminum carport plans can be made to be sturdier with the addition of steel or wood support beams.  Most steel carports combine steel framing materials with aluminum cover and siding.  There are many ways in which you can reduce the amount of money you pay by simply compromising on materials without losing the integrity of a structure.  If you are building a carport from scratch, you may want to consult with a contractor or building inspector to determine the best material structure for the area in which you live.

Another suggestion is to purchase an aluminum carport kit which should everything you need in order to get the structure assembled and installed properly.  The great thing about aluminum carport kits is that they include fairly lightweight materials so you should have no problem moving the components to their final destination without the need of specialized lifting equipment.  You may need a few extra hands when it comes to getting the pieces up and bolted together but all you should need is simple tools like a screwdriver, hammer, and wrench for assembly.  Most aluminum structures require anchoring onto a concrete or other solid surface so you may need to install a concrete slab if don’t already have one.  Carports have special anchors that must be done properly in order for the structure to be sound and durable.

In order to find out what types of metal carports are available in your area consult your local yellow pages so you can contact the dealers in your area.  When you visit a dealer ask information about various types so you can get a better understanding of the material and style options.  The size of a shelter should be equivalent to the size of your vehicle plus a few feet of clearance on either side for safe access to and from your vehicle.
