Most consumers choose a 2 car carport because they have more than one vehicle that requires shelter. You can however, utilize the shelter beneath a two car carport for multiple purposes including to create a sheltered outdoor living space or a work area for completing projects like working on your car, woodworking, or even to complete a large craft or hobby project. 2 car carports can be purchased in all kinds of dimensions and styles so they can look more like a part of your home rather than an addition. Some manufacturers even let you customize the trim, roof, and siding style so you can actually match aspects of your home even better.
Two car carports can be purchased in all kinds of different materials including metal, wood, and vinyl. Some materials may be more attractive in appearance but are not necessarily the most durable. Wood is probably the least durable because it can be destroyed in a fire or sustain damage from long-term exposure to moist or humid conditions, termites, and even rodents like rats can chew the wood and cause major structural damage to the shelter. Steel is probably the toughest material and it will definitely last a long time but it is also the most expensive by far. If you do choose a steel or aluminum shelter, you can rest assured that it last a very long time.
Double carports can be open on all sides or partially covered on some of the sides. Some manufacturers also carry more expensive shelters that are fully covered on all sides and contain a garage style door for access. When deciding between an open or enclosed double carport, make sure you take climatic conditions into account. If you live in an area of extreme weather like frequent thunderstorms or heave snowfall, you may want to consider an enclosed carport because it will give you the most coverage and protection for your vehicles.
